Travel guide recommendations: The Lonely Planet guides.
Australia
Lonely Planet, Australia
What a big country! Wow, so many splendid places. Not as amazing as the country, but still amazing is, how this book covers Australia. There is nearly no place on the continent not described in it, with all the necessary information about locations, visits, tours…
It is listed here, because I found all the information in it that I needed and I would buy it again.

If you travel only in a particular region, you probably better choose the coresponding guide.
That's what I did for Caliofornia, Nevada and the Colorado Plateau in Sommer 2001.
The two books linked below proved to be excellent resources to find the right places, accommodations, restaurants or whatever you are looking for.
They make it easy to find a low priced hostel or the luxury five star hotel, if that's what you are after.
